Like many other remodeling projects, we get asked this all the time and no, we do not just throw out numbers over the phone. Be careful of basement remodeling contractors that do!
The accurate answer to the question depends on MANY factors, such as...
Is your basement already studded? Plumbed for a bathroom or kitchen or wet-bar? (If you want these things) Is their duct work? Is the HVAC complete or non-existent? How about the electrical? What stage is it in? Etc... etc...
As you can see, there's a lot of different things to consider in coming up with an accurate estimate and the only way to do so is to access your needs/dreams (Make a list) and then discuss them with a qualified basement remodeling company.
That being said, basement remodel or finish projects are probably the most under estimated projects, cost wise, by homeowners.
If your Basement is currently a blank slate. No Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical etc... Here's a little tip for you...
After you've determined the square footage of your basement, take out a calculator. Enter the square footage. Then multiply that by 55.
So, a 1000 sq/ft blank slate Basement will START around $55.00 per sq/ft to finish or around $55,000. Now obviously, depending on the Finishes you want, that number can go higher.
On the other hand, if you already have some walls framed out or some of the mechanicals installed, (HVAC etc...) this number would start out less. Maybe a lot less.
Please be careful though! You bet you can find basement contractors who will say ~ "We can do that for $40.00 (or whatever) a sq/ft."
Believe it or not, there are actually contractors who will purposely under-bid a job just to get it. Then hit you up for more money before the job is complete.
If your budget is already spent, that guy is gone ~ leaving you with a mess! Find a licensed, insured basement finish contractor with an excellent reputation who will shoot straight with you right from the start.
Never put the safety of your family, your home or your money in the hands of a smooth talking low-baller! Not to mention many of these guys are simply inexperienced at accurately bidding a job and...
